Sailing in the ARC
Join as crew for the ARC, ARC + or World ARC
Have you ever dreamt of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean? Join Rubicon 3 as we participate in the ARC and World ARC. Here you can read more about the events, what to expect and why we think they are so very special.
What is the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC)?
Run by the World Cruising Club, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers began in 1986 and since then has grown into one of the most famous and fun sailing rallies in the world. Now over 250 yachts set sail each year from Gran Canaria bound for St Lucia in the Caribbean. To get there, the fleet will sail across the Atlantic Ocean from east to west, using the powerful north easterly trade winds. They can look forward to three weeks of downwind ocean sailing, ever warmer weather and the wonderful Caribbean welcome at the end. There are wonderful parties and social events at the start and finish.
How does the ARC + differ?
The ARC + grew out of the ARC. Also starting in Gran Canaria and finishing in St Lucia, it sails via the Cape Verde islands. This means you not only have the chance to see and explore this wonderful group of islands, but also the chance to have a shorter sail if wanted: from Gran Canaria to Cape Verde or Cape Verde to St Lucia. Many if not most of our clients still sign up for both legs however as they are just too good to miss!
And what is the World ARC?
The World ARC is the big one: the chance to sail around the world, visiting some of the most beautiful and unusual places you could imagine. The Galapagos, French Polynesia, the Great Barrier Reef, Lombok and more all await! The full event takes 15 months, but we have divided the route up into nine legs.
