This is a typical itinerary for this voyage. What makes an adventure sailing holiday so special however is that there can be no fixed itinerary and no part of this is guaranteed. The wind and the weather ultimately shape what's possible each day but everything is very flexible within that. This is a particularly difficult route to predict and we may go down the west or east coast of the UK
Join the boat between 1200 and 2000 hrs (the closer to 1200 the better but we know flights and such like don't always work like that, so don't worry!) Get your belongings packed away and relax. There's plenty of things to do in the future but right now it's about relaxing, finding your way around the boat and enjoying the surroundings.
"The skipper and mates were just so kind and welcoming when I joined. All my nerves disappeared and I felt a huge surge of excitement" Anna G, Winchester
This day is all about getting up to speed with the boat. Whether you are a complete novice or more experienced sailor, everyone benefits from detailed introductions, safety briefings and training sessions. You will have two highly experienced instructors guide you through every aspect that you need to know to have a great sailing trip. We'll be working through all the key sailing manoeuvres such as tacking and gybing, reefing and knot tying! There will be training on weather and safety. By the end of the day, everyone on board should feel comfortable with the basics - even though there's more to learn and practice every day.

"I loved having someone explain the basics to me so clearly and then giving me time and space to practice. She had the patience of a saint and I am hugely grateful" Daniel M, London
The exact timings are completely weather dependant, but all going well we can spend another day exploring this beautiful coast before we set off across the North Sea. the yacht is in her element here and it's a thrilling sail as we charge through the water. The destination could be Orkney or Shetland depending on the wind angles and after about 36 hours at sea we'll be pulling in for a short bit of R&R. These islands are lovely, with ancient towns such as Kirkwall or Lerwick. They are also right on the whale migratory routes and we may be lucky and see whales, porpoises and more en route.
We now sail through one of the world's great cruising grounds. The islands of Jura, Sky and Mull are all en route and not only can we sail in this beautiful area, there should be the chance to stop at one of the distilleries on the way and pick up some of the local speciality!
We now have a passage of around 450nm down through the Irish Sea and around the western tip of the UK to Falmouth. This will take around three days. If the weather is favourable or we haven't been able to stop before, we may be able to stop in the Isle of Man or Dublin for an evening.
We now have a final passage of about 150nm along the south coast of the UK and finally past the Needles and into the Solent. This will take around 24 hours and is a sail through some famous sailing areas. Just remember, the weather may mean none of this happens and we go down the coasts of Norway, Holland and France to get back! We can only decide at the time but the priority is to give you some great sailing.
"Totally amazing trip. Beautiful scenery made more perfect by our fabulous skipper and first mate . Unforgettable experience" Letitia R, Derby
It's always amazing how quickly everyone has become firm friends and the boat and its routines seem so familiar. Yet it's time to wrap it all up and head home. We'll get the boat back to how we found it, sign logbooks, exchange emails and disembark by 1200hrs
I didn't know what to expect before joining up, but I would say that's the best holiday I've had in my life. The Lofotens were everything you promised and the crew so caring.
