Crew member's medical declaration

Letting us know about any medical conditions before you head to sea

Both before you sign up and before you join the boat, you need to tell us about any medical conditions you may have that would affect your ability to be safe on board.

 

Before signing up

We are very committed to helping as many people as we can experience the adventure and excitement of this type of sailing holiday. However, before all else, it is essential that you are in a fit state to be at sea where access to medical help is less and slower to access than on land. Have a look through the medical questions below and if you answer 'yes' to any of them or have any questions at all, get in touch. The chances are you will still be fine to sail with us and common conditions such as diabetes should prove no barrier to you joining a voyage - but check first as pre-exiting medical conditions you know about may invalidate your insurance should you subsequently need to cancel.

 

Two weeks before the voyage start date

When you receive an email with your final joining instructions, you will be asked to complete and submit the medical declaration below (please do not submit it before this time). This gives us an up to date status on your medical well being. Once at sea we are responsible for your well being therefore if anything is declared that we are not comfortable with, we may ask for a doctor's note to confirm that you are good to go to sea.

 

Aged 70 or over?

We are firm believers that age is no barrier to being at sea. So long as you are in a suitable physical condition,  we will be delighted to have you on board. However, it pays to err on the side of caution therefore if you are aged 70 or over at booking or on the trip start date we will require a doctor's note from you confirming you are good to go to sea.

 

Medical Declaration

Please let us know about your health and fitness by answering the questions below to the best of your knowledge.

 

In the last two years, have you received or been referred for any treatment, surgery, investigations of follow-ups at any hospital, surgery or clinic for any of the following medical conditions?

  • Surgery
  • Asthma requiring inpatient treatment, bronchitis or any other lung or respiratory condition
  • Cancer or any growth or form of malignancy
  • Diabetes mellitus or any blood sugar disorders
  • Kidney or bladder disorder
  • Have you been or are you being treated for any mental, psychological or nervous problems
  • Any other medical condition that is ongoing or for which you have received inpatient treatment
  • Have you ever had cardiovascular problems or other heart conditions, hypertension or any cerebrovascular problems
  • Have you ever been diagnosed with a terminal condition
  • Do you have any allergies or are you allergic to any medication
  • Do you have or have you ever had an alcohol or drug addiction
  • Do you have any problems with your hearing
  • Do you have any other conditions or have you had any medical treatment or operations which you feel may hinder your ability to live and work on an ocean going yacht?
  • Do you have any for allergies or intolerances that will affect what you will be able to eat on board?
  • Will you be aged 70 or over on the start date of your trip?

No smoking sign

We operate a strict no smoking policy

The smoking of any form of tobacco is forbidden on board or on the dock next to the boat. We also very strongly discourage the smoking of any tobacco at any time between the start and end date as the smell comes on-board into confined living space. The use of e-cigarettes is fine.

ABTOT Protection

The Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Limited (ABTOT) provides financial protection under The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 for WZ Lmited t/a Rubicon 3, and in the event of their insolvency, protection is provided for the following: 1. non-flight packages and 2. flight inclusive packages that commence outside of the EU, which are sold to customers outside of the EU. ABTOT cover provides for a refund in the event you have not yet travelled or repatriation if you are abroad.  Please note that bookings made outside the EU are only protected by ABTOT when purchased directly with Rubicon 3. In the unlikely event that you require assistance whilst abroad due to our financial failure, please call our 24/7 helpline on 01702 811397 and advise you are a customer of an ABTOT protected travel company. You can access The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 here.
