Heading to Grenada

Posted in : Blog

Leaving Union Island, and with Xavier and Rick in navigation mode, our next port of call was Carriacou, part of Grenada and requiring a visit to the customs office for Kieran. A relatively calm and peaceful day on our beloved Starling – Mark, Hannah and Tim rotated on the helm with the team keeping a careful eye for hazards along the way.

Without doubt everyone is learning new skills on this adventure thanks to Neal and Kieran’s long enduring patience.  Their knowledge and ability to pass on their many years of sailing experience is of the highest quality and for that we are all grateful.

Dropping anchor in Hillsborough Bay to allow Kieran to make a quick dash to customs, once we had all filled in the necessary forms – this does appear to be the way in the Caribbean – the team then chose to motor around the corner coming to rest near the idyllic Sandy Island.

Wherever you sail around the Caribbean prepare for so so many special moments – this little oasis is yet another and we had an invite from the island’s boutique bar owner to make a visit.

Once Starling had been put to bed – Neal prepared our rib Sparrow and we motored across to the island to be met by the sounds of background music beautifully enhanced by the hypnotic trance of a local musician playing the steel drums – what better place could you be on a Saturday afternoon with new found friends and soul mates.  Hannah your performance on the drums will always be remembered!

As I write, Alison and Sarah are concocting a superb smelling chicken curry, Christian and Hannah are working on the navigation for tomorrow, Mark and Xavier are demolishing pre-dinner snacks, Neal is in the shower again and Kieran has hopped across to Sandy Island to prevent Nick having another pina colada and Rick another rum punch – happy days and even better nights.
