Today Hummingbird was forced to take a stormbound day. A complex LP near Iceland and its associated fronts brought strong winds and relentless rain to the usual sunny Hebrides. So a morning of school in the saloon before venturing to the local city/town/village was the order of the day.
Lessons on global weather and the frontal passing, tea break then a further lesson on charts and passage planning filled our morning before a freshly made lunch by Phil.
We then experienced the single track roads of Harris in our taxi and buses before finding the gin distillery was full for the rest of the week. Not to be upset, Jamie sorted out a bottle for later and we each took our own time to sample the local Harris tweed shop, Essences and soaps, craft fair and village shop….some making their way to the final destination of the pub quicker than others.
The crew enjoyed the rest of the chilled afternoon after a few long days before making the trip back to Scalpay and our little piece of remoteness.
Emma was back in the galley and we’re now looking forward to sausage and mash, a real warming dinner!
