Key information about Rubicon 3 sailing expeditions

Traveling solo?

90% of the crew come alone

Travelling solo is a superb way to get the full adventure experience. With the majority of the crew coming alone, you are amongst like minded people and there’s always a fantastic social element to life on board. You always have the choice of exploring ashore with other crew members or wandering off on your own. At sea, sometimes you’ll be on the helm, trimming sails or navigating – other times you’ll have time to sit on deck and look out over the open ocean.

Wondering who else joins?

An eclectic mix from around the world

The crew who sign up are usually a 50:50 mix of men and women. We get lots of people from their 30s through to 60s as a general guide and you can expect to be part of a fun, adventurous group. Their sailing experience usually ranges from none to some experience. No previous experience is required.

New to sailing & want to learn?

There's a full sailing course on every trip

The majority of people on board are either new to sailing or might describe themselves as having a ‘rusty’ Day Skipper. Our instructors are there to give you a supportive, calm environment in which to learn and develop new skills. There are also RYA qualifications to be earned.

How tough is it?

These are doable by just about everyone

We plan and run these sailing adventures very carefully to ensure that anyone with a normal physical capability and an adventurous mindset can take part. No specific physical fitness is required.

Do we get to explore ashore?

Every day, unless we're on the ocean!

We believe in sailing with a purpose, and ours is to find new, amazing places and then to be able to get ashore and explore. Except when we’re on passage, almost every day we’ll anchor somewhere or pull into a harbour and then you’re free to head off and discover.

Is more advanced training available?

Absolutely. We run trips specifically for you

Once you have some experience and maybe an RYA or ASA certificate, it can be hard to know how to get that next level of experience. We run Passage Making Masterclasses to enable you to make rapid gains in your seamanship and skippering skills. Most of our ocean sailing trips encompass RYA Yachtmaster Ocean qualifying passages.

Can I get any shore based training?

Yes - we specialise in practical, real world skills

All our courses are weekend based, so that you can fit them into your normal schedule. We run courses in navigation, celestial navigation, essential electrical skills and more.
